nTom and Diane Benstog, animal shelter, East Canyon, near Morgan

New no-kill animal shelter that is completely off-grid, uses solar and wind power
System description:  One couple's dream comes to life with this animal shelter, with an isolated location that required off-grid power. The solar system powers their home and the shelter. Because of its canyon location, a lot of its power will come from a 1,000-watt H80 windmill from Southwest Wind Power. Placed on a 50-foot pole, the unit has a 10-foot diameter wind generator. This high tech power system also has PV panels to capture the sun on those few calm days when the wind isn't blowing. The home and the shelter have a state- of-the-art efficient radiant heating system that is tailored for low-power demands and easily accepts solar hot water panels. Anyone who loves animals must see this site.
